Recalling Storms as Hurricane Season Begins

Hurricane season begins on June 1st and lasts through November.  

Hurricanes are a fact of life on the Texas coast but, due to advance warnings and preparedness, storm deaths have decreased dramatically since the 1900 hurricane crept upon unsuspecting Galveston residents. Evacuations in low-lying coastal areas have prevented countless deaths from storm surges.

Dr. Pepper Originated in Waco Texas

The next time you order a Dr Pepper just say, "Shoot me a Waco" and see what kind of reaction you get. Dr Pepper lovers probably have a hard time envisioning a world without their favorite beverage but, in 1885, the only place you could buy a Dr Pepper was Waco, Texas.

Tornado Weather in Texas

Texas holds two places on the list of the twenty-five deadliest tornadoes in the United States.  Waco and Goliad both tie for tenth place with each town seeing 114 people killed by twisters, Goliad in May of 1902 and Waco in May of 1953.  Texas also ranks number 17 on the Disaster Center Ranking of Tornado Risk by State.
